This heirloom quality variety was released from the Cornell Small Fruit Breeding Program in Geneva, New York. This black raspberry plant is a high-producing early variety whose upright growth and cluster formation make its berries very easy to pick. It has medium, firm, glossy fruit with the best black raspberry flavor. Moderately hardy but very vigorous, Bristol shows tolerance to powdery mildew.

I'm pleased with the amount of sweet dark raspberries that I have been getting from these canes. Easy to pick. I would recommend them to anyone.

Last year was the 3rd year for my berries and we had a bumper crop! I was able to share fresh berries with my neighbors and friends while still having all we could eat. Great flavor! Nourse always has sent top plants that have done exceptionally well.

I planted 5 of these three years ago. I have more berries than I can handle! Plump, sweet and juicy. This year I’ve already canned 100 4 oz jars of jam, made 4 pies and frozen enough for 4 more pies and there’s still a ton of berries ripening on the bushes. I had to build a sturdy trellis since these plants root anywhere they touch the ground.

I love these berries! Productive, easy to pick, very flavorful. Berries hold up, are not as soft as the red raspberries I have.

These plants produced SO MANY delicious berries in year two! We like the flavor too. Really enjoy these plants!

This is my first year growing these so I have only harvested a small handful. The berries are very small and quite seedy. The flavor is not real strong but is a unique flavor, its a black raspberry flavor, which is different from red raspberry flavor, for those of you who don't know that. I'd say it tastes more like boysenberry. (an awesome flavor, in my opinion) I think they would be very excellent berry for jams or in smoothies etc. There not real juicy and flavorful for fresh eating which may leave some people disappointed with them. Just know they're not ideal for fresh eating, but they do have a special flavor you won't find in red raspberries. Also the plants do grow very stringy, this variety definitely needs trellised. So far I'm happy with them. I'll know more next year. I also have a fall bearing black raspberry the variety is Niwot, so far I'm more impressed with the flavor Niwot than I am with Bristol.

Plants came in A-1 shape, and are growing fine this first year...

So far so good, they all leafed out but it's only the first year so not much growth yet. Hoping to establish a couple of healthy mounds but this is a 101 course, hope to learn about it with this for a future larger growth.
