On Friday, September 26th, 2025, 34 members of the Nourse Farms team joined the Connecticut River Conservancy's 29th annual Source to Sea Cleanup. This major Connecticut River cleanup event brings together volunteers across Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Connecticut. This river and watershed protection initiative is part of the CRC's ongoing, science-based efforts to protect and restore the Connecticut River ecosystem—ensuring clean, healthy waterways from source to sea.
As part of Nourse Farms' ongoing sustainability and community engagement initiatives, our team collected an impressive 3,379 pieces of trash. The top 15 most collected items:
• Plastic bottles: 470
• Cigarette butts: 376
• Aluminum cans: 354
• Bottle caps: 311
• Mini alcohol bottles (nips): 265
• Glass bottles: 178
• Lids: 138
• Grocery bags (plastic): 99
• Cups/Plates (paper): 93
• Cups/Plates (plastic): 92
• Other plastic bottles (oil, bleach, etc.): 85
• Food containers (plastic): 82
• Bags of dumped trash: 81
• 6-pack holders: 80
• Other waste (metal, paper, etc.): 80
Some of the more unusual discoveries? A crockpot, a toilet seat, and even a full bag of guacamole cups.
Participating in the Source to Sea Cleanup 2025 is just one way Nourse Farms supports environmental stewardship and sustainable agriculture. We're proud to contribute to a cleaner river, safer wildlife habitats, and a healthier environment for future generations.
