Dickens (NY 02 56) Strawberry
CommercialA Cornell University release that produces large, firm fruit. Dickens ripens in late mid-season starting at the end of the Jewel season and continuing for roughly 10 days, depending on conditions. The fruit has a short conic shape and produces multiple fruiting laterals, making it easy to pick. Dickens fruit has a good, sweet flavor with a bright red skin color and red interior. In trials in Ontario, Dickens showed good Phytophthora root rot resistance in replant sites and good vigor through renovation. Dickens consistently produces high-quality fruit perfect for U-pick and roadside/fresh market operations. Recent results show higher productivity in the plasticulture system versus the matted row.
