Ponca Blackberry
CommercialAccording to Dr. John Clark at the University of Arkansas, Ponca is one of the sweetest and most flavorful blackberry varieties. Ponca is an excellent choice for U-pick and roadside/fresh market operations. Commercial growers will love its yield potential and post-harvest fruit quality. Ponca ripens shortly after Natchez and before Caddo, meeting an important early ripening window. Due to its short internode length, Ponca has a unique, compact growth habit. Plants show excellent cane health, exhibiting no unusual susceptibility to rusts or anthracnose. Ponca has shown very limited injury to a low of 1ºF. If there is frost/cold damage to the main crop, Ponca has also shown a good secondary bud crop.
